Due to rough water conditions on Lake Onega, the captain cancelled our scheduled visit to the historic Church of the Transfiguration on the island of Kizhi and instead we made a stop in the small town of Vytegra, located along the Volga-Baltic Canal. Although I was disappointed I didn't get to see the church (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) the stop in Vytegra was interesting for two reasons: we got to witness a real Russian rural town and tour the inside of a decommissioned 1969 Soviet diesel submarine (how cool!).
It takes approximately 20-60 seconds for the photos on this page to download.
