I rarely dedicate an entire photo page to a religious structure, but the Sagrada Familia Church is an exception. Designed by famed modernist architect Antoni Gaudi, who took over the construction of the church in 1883, the building is a (yet to be completed) masterpiece combining Gothic and curvilinear Art Nouveau styles. When Gaudi died in 1926 less than 25 percent of the church was completed. And even today, the church is still under construction. Funding is entirely based on donations so it has taken a long time to finish (139 years and counting). Supposedly, the third entrance and the remaining towers are slated to be completed around 2030. I have seen many fascinating and beautiful religious structures in my travels -- from mosques and Hindu shrines to Buddhist temples and Christian cathedrals -- but nothing quite like the Sagrada Familia Church. It is truly a spectacular building!
