Toledo was another medieval city we visited on this tour. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986, underlining the city's historical buildings and its cultural impact on the rest of the country. Between the 6th and 8th centuries, it was the capital of the Visigoth Kingdom following the fall of the Roman Empire. During the 16th century the city was the main venue of King Charles V, the Holy Roman Emperor. Toledo is also regarded as the 'City of the Three Cultures' due to its Christian, Muslim and Jewish heritage.
