The last province we visited was Puntarenas, the largest province in the country, covering most of Costa Rica's Pacific Ocean coastline. Our hotel was another sprawling property located within what is referred to as a transitional rainforest. This is a forest that lies between a traditional rainforest and a drier climate; the rainy season here tends to be seasonal as opposed to year-round. Our rooms were located in lodges grouped by sections named after different countries of Latin America and the Caribbean. On the night we arrived a huge tropical storm hit the area, causing water to leak into some of our rooms. On our first day we went to Blanca Beach, one of the two beaches on or near the hotel property. On the second day we paddled outrigger canoes to a protected cove along the Pacific coastline, spending some time on the beach and having a picnic lunch before returning back.  On our last day in Puntarenas Province I was able to visit the hotel's beautiful butterfly pavilion.
