Luang Prabang  (Part Three)

After our Mekong River boat ride we drove through the Laotian countryside to visit the Kuang Si Falls, a three-tiered waterfall located about 29 kilometers south of Luang Prabang. Fed by the Nam Si River, the height of the main waterfall is roughly 60 meters. From the top the water flows into three cascading waterfalls over white limestone rocks into a series of aquamarine or turquoise-colored natural ponds surrounded by tropical trees. The entire area is lovely. This is a very popular spot and you can see both locals and tourists taking a dip in the various pools along the water's path. The waterfall is part of a national park that also includes a bear rescue center and a butterfly farm. In the evening we visited Luang Prabang's famous Night Market situated along the streets adjacent to the Royal Palace Museum compound. I had dinner in one of the busy restaurants near the Night Market with Fatima, Leanne and Helen (three other members of the group). The following morning I took a brief walk around the area near our hotel before we headed to the airport for our flights to Siem Reap, Cambodia.
