From Alajuela Province we traveled west into Guanacaste Province for a two-night stay at the sprawling resort Hacienda Guachipelin located next to the Rincon de la Vieja National Park. This lodge is part of a 1,400-hectare working farm that is surrounded by jungle. The property offers many amenities and adventure activities to keep one busy for a week. It was my favorite hotel on the tour. Before we reached Hacienda Guachipelin we stopped in the nearby city of Liberia, the capital of the Guanacaste Province, to visit a cantina (a typical neighborhood bar) to experience how the locals unwind. We enjoyed a drink before continuing on to the hotel. The following morning our group rode horses through the rainforest to a waterfall where we took a dip in the water. Later in the afternoon a group of us went up into the mountains to enjoy the hotel's hot springs.
